Eclipse summit India (18th July 2009)
What a busy day! A very nicely organized event with lot of hot discussions and workshops, I thoroughly enjoyed the day. Yesterdays sessions were also brilliant.
The key note address by Diraj from Oracle showed some interesting development called FastSwap. Also there was another spaker from IBM, Bharath talked about Rational development platform.
Global competition and pricing pressures place an extraordinary demand on organizations to strive for new levels of competitiveness. Business intelligence (BI) applications can enable organizations to respond effectively within a volatile market while maintaining low TCO and operational efficiency. BIRT does BI the right way, the simplest way and the most modest way. If you think that Eclipse is best Java community could ever get out of Open Source other than Java itself, here is the latest release of Galileo from Eclipse with 33 projects!.
Krishna Venkataraman started with his power speech on BIRT (Business intelligence and reporting tool), It was just great to listen to him. He covered a good amount of BIRT (this is actually is a large subject), in a short time and indeed I got a opportunity to interact with him on the BIRT 2.5 release.

I could see lot more enthusiastic audience today also like the previous day. The help desk was really helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed lunch, over some hot topics on BIRT and DB2. There were lot of opportunities for networking and I could make use of it to some extend.
I started working with BIRT from version 1.0 and also got a prize for their 1st Global BIRT contest in year 2006. To my surprise, when I was checking with other participants, only very few know , such a tool is available from Eclipse. These kind of events helps the growing Eclipse community to gain insights on these powerful open source tools.
The workshop at Eclipse Indian Summit 2009, I hope really helped all participants understanding, Eclipse and its many tools and components in some detail. The event was well focused and was on time without any delay, inspite of many workshops and sessions.
Look forward to such inspiring events. Let me rush now.
